Dental treatment in Bucharest: a visitor’s guide

Romania has become a popular destination for dental treatment, and Bucharest has many modern private clinics that welcome international patients. Here is how it works and how to choose safely.

Updated October 2026

Why patients choose Bucharest

Bucharest has a large number of private dental clinics, many with modern equipment, English-speaking dentists and patient coordinators. Prices are often much lower than in the UK and much of Western Europe, and the city has direct flights from across Europe.

How to check a dentist and clinic

Dentists practising in Romania must be members of the Colegiul Medicilor Stomatologi din România (CMSR), the College of Dentists of Romania. Ask the clinic who will treat you, and check their registration, qualifications and experience.

  • Ask who will treat you, and check their registration with the CMSR
  • Ask for a written treatment plan and an itemised quote before you travel
  • Ask which implant system and materials will be used
  • Ask what guarantee is offered, and how problems are handled after you return home
  • Read recent independent reviews, not only testimonials on the clinic’s own website

Planning your trips

Simple treatments may be done in one visit, but dental implants usually need two trips: one to place the implant and a second, often several months later, to fit the crown or bridge. Allow time for check-ups between appointments.

Aftercare at home

Think about aftercare before you start: ask your clinic for full records and X-rays, tell your own dentist about the treatment, and agree how any problems will be handled once you are home.

Insurance and costs

Private dental treatment abroad is usually not covered by public health insurance or the European health insurance card. Check whether your travel insurance covers complications, and include flights, accommodation and a possible second trip when you compare prices.

Questions and answers

Is dental treatment in Bucharest safe?

Romania is an EU country with regulated healthcare, and Bucharest has many experienced clinics. As anywhere, quality varies, so check your dentist’s registration with the CMSR, ask for a written treatment plan and read independent reviews.

How many trips do dental implants need?

Usually two: one to place the implant and another, often several months later, to fit the crown or bridge.

Do dentists in Bucharest speak English?

Many clinics that treat international patients have English-speaking dentists and coordinators. Confirm this when you book.

Is private dental treatment covered by the EHIC or GHIC card?

Generally not. The card covers necessary treatment in public services, not planned private dental work.
