Travelling overland to Istanbul is one of the great journeys of the region. In summer, CFR Călători runs a direct overnight train from Gara de Nord to Istanbul’s Halkalı station, through Bulgaria; in 2026 it ran from mid-June to mid-October, with tickets on sale 90 days ahead. Outside the season, you can travel with connecting trains through Bulgaria, by coach or by air. Check timetables and tickets with CFR Călători.
