The Romanian Athenaeum, with its dome and Ionic portico, is the symbol of Bucharest and of its love of music. Opened in 1888 and built partly with money raised from the public, it is home to the George Enescu Philharmonic, and its round concert hall is ringed by a great fresco of Romanian history. The best way to see it is at a concert; book ahead for the weekend.
