Revolution Square
Where 1989 happened
About Revolution Square
Revolution Square takes its name from December 1989, when crowds gathered here and the communist regime fell. Around it stand the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum of Art, the Athenaeum, the Central University Library and the Athénée Palace hotel, and at its centre rises the Memorial of Rebirth, remembering those who died in the revolution.
