Caru’ cu Bere has been pouring beer in the Old Town since 1879, and its hall, with carved wood, stained glass, painted vaults and murals, is one of the most beautiful rooms in Bucharest. The menu is a tour of Romanian classics: sarmale (cabbage rolls) with polenta, mici (grilled sausages), ciorbă soups and papanași doughnuts for dessert. It is busy and lively, with music and dancing some evenings, so book a table if you can.
